SFTE Engagement at Flight Test Safety Workshop

SFTE had a strong presence at the Flight Test Safety Workshop in Ft. Worth, TX on May 6-7. The event featured representation from six SFTE chapters and three member presentations.
Highlights included:
  • “Dunes” Wijayratne serving as co-presenter on the workshop’s best presentation, outlining Boeing's new flight test displays.
  • SFTE Safety Committee Chair, Keith Gittemeier, co-presenting on Manufacturer’s Flight Test Council
  • FTTEC Chair Kevin Switick presenting on Flight Test Ethics
  • Multiple discussions with industry and government leaders regarding SFTE membership and engagement opportunities
  • President Jeff Canclini's presentation focused on
    • expanding FTE opportunities and challenges in UCAV and autonomy-driven flight test.
    • The need for organizational FTE standards and professional development.
    • Expanding the SFTE Recommended Practices initiative across the industry.
The discussions generated engagement from both FTEs and test pilots, particularly regarding the evolving role of SFTE.
