SFTE at the AIAA Aviation Forum

Members of the Society recently participated in two special sessions at the annual AIAA AVIATION Forum held in San Diego. On 9 June, five SFTE members gave presentations on the theme of "The Flight Test Engineer: What We Do."

The presenters and topics were:

  • Jen Uchida, Past President of SFTE, "SFTE – Who We Are and What We Can Do for You"
  • Marty Shubert, former test pilot and current consultant, "Flight Testing Variable Configuration AAM"
  • Dave Mitchell, Chair of the SFTE Tech Council and Session Chair for the event, "Flight Test to Prove a Negative: Testing for PIO"
  • Dr. Andrew Freeborn, Director of Space at the USAF Test Pilot School, "Space Test Engineering: Educating the Space Force's Newest Test Leaders"
  • Kevin Switick, Chair of the Flight Test Training and Education Committee, "Becoming a Professional FTE" and "Ethics in Flight Test."

Following the session, the presenters held a panel discussion, hosted by Johana D. Fischer, Flight Test Instrumentation Engineer at Boeing, on the topic of "Challenges for the Future of Flight Testing." Our special thanks to all the participants!

The SFTE Tech Council and AIAA Flight Test Technical Committee hope to establish a collaboration for co-hosted sessions in the future at both AIAA Forums and SFTE Symposia.
